Building According to God’s Pattern

Updated: May 3

Wednesday Night of Arizona Campmeeting 2025

by Bro. Nathan Bryne

The Blueprint: Following God’s Word

Bro. Nathan began his sermon by emphasizing the critical importance of building according to the explicit instructions found in Scripture. Drawing a parallel to construction, Bro. Nathan asserted that just as builders must follow detailed architectural plans, Christians must adhere strictly to the biblical blueprint provided by God. Using Deuteronomy 6 as his foundational text, Bro. Nathan reminded the congregation that deviation from divine instruction inevitably results in spiritual failure.

He cautioned against the influence of secular wisdom and cultural trends in spiritual matters, particularly in parenting. “God’s word is our blueprint,” Bro. Nathan firmly stated, “and any substitute will collapse under pressure.” He illustrated the danger of neglecting biblical commands with historical and contemporary examples, showing that disobedience leads not only to personal spiritual ruin but also to generational loss.

Remembering God’s Provision

Bro. Nathan transitioned into a heartfelt exhortation on the dangers of forgetting God’s past provisions and heritage. Referencing Psalm 127, he explained that human efforts alone, without the guidance and blessing of God, result in futility. The spiritual heritage received from past generations is crucial and must not be forgotten, as complacency and spiritual negligence threaten future blessings.

He encouraged the congregation to cultivate gratitude and remembrance, recalling the testimonies of faithful predecessors. Bro. Nathan stressed that acknowledging God’s past faithfulness fuels current obedience and ensures future success in spiritual endeavors, particularly in nurturing families according to biblical standards.

Parenting with Discipline and Love

Bro. Nathan addressed biblical parenting directly, underscoring the necessity of discipline balanced with love. Citing Proverbs 22:6 and Proverbs 23:13-14, he affirmed that children require structured correction to grow spiritually and morally strong. Discipline, he emphasized, should not be harsh or punitive but rather corrective and instructive, always rooted in love and wisdom.

Bro. Nathan passionately countered modern cultural resistance to discipline, urging the church to reject societal pressures that contradict biblical teachings. He warned parents that neglecting proper discipline and instruction could lead children astray, potentially causing irreversible spiritual damage.

Continuous Training and Consistency

In his next point, Bro. Nathan highlighted the importance of consistent, deliberate training in child-rearing. Sporadic spiritual instruction, he argued, is insufficient and ineffective. Training must begin early, be repetitive, and remain consistent throughout a child’s development to effectively embed godly principles.

He encouraged parents to integrate Scripture into daily life, using practical moments as teaching opportunities. Bro. Nathan reinforced the necessity of personal example, reminding parents that their behavior profoundly influences children’s spiritual formation.

Generational and Community Responsibility

Concluding his sermon, Bro. Nathan emphasized the broader community’s role in maintaining spiritual integrity and continuity. He passionately called on each individual and family within the church to recognize their responsibility to pass down an intact spiritual heritage to the next generation.

Drawing from Ezekiel 43, he stressed the importance of adherence to God’s patterns, not just individually but collectively. He highlighted the church’s role in safeguarding these patterns, emphasizing the collective responsibility to uphold divine standards. Bro. Nathan concluded with a call to communal accountability, urging the church to build faithfully and steadfastly according to God’s enduring pattern.

Reflective Questions

2. Have I taken time recently to remember and reflect upon the spiritual heritage I’ve received? How does this remembrance influence my current walk with God?

3. In what ways can I balance discipline with love in my interactions with my children or others under my care?

4. How consistent and deliberate am I in providing spiritual instruction and modeling godly behavior to my family?

5. Do I recognize my role in the broader community of believers in safeguarding and transmitting spiritual truths to future generations?
